There is no dress code for the Taster Course. However we recommend comfortable shoes and clothing as you will be walking between halls and the campus, and during various activities.
Clothing and Accessories
- Comfortable clothes and shoes for activities as you will be walking around campus (please no open toe shoes for working in the labs).
- Clothing for the final day presentation: please try to wear something smart (ideally no trainers).
- Social event: smart casual (something you would go out for a casual meal in).
- Coat/Umbrella
- Small bag/rucksack for use during the day.
- Toiletries (including soap, as this is not provided in Halls) + Hairdryer.
- Sports clothes if you wish to take part in a sport social activity
- Trousers / long skirts for laboratories.
Other Items
- Alarm Clock to ensure you get up on time (if you use your mobile for this, then that’s fine too)!
- Stationery: notebook and pens
- Any prescription medication required
- Chargers for any electronic devices
- Refillable waterbottle
- Wet weather: Umbrella
- Warm weather: Sunhat & Sunlotion
Mobile Phones
Attendees are welcome to bring mobile phones for use during the course, though we emphasise that they are not mandatory. We will share information on our course-specific, private, social media offerings closer to the start of the course. An introductory lecture on Monday will cover mobile phone etiquette, and we ask all attendees using mobile phones to do so respectfully during lectures and other activities.
Money
Food and drink is provided for the week. However, we find that attendees often wish to buy a few other things - whether it's a a Coffee from Costa/Pret, some snacks from the local shops, or some additional drinks (see below). Highfield Campus is a cashless campus so although there shouldn’t be the need to spend anything, shops and vending machines will only accept card payments.
Therefore, we would suggest bringing:
- A small amount of money (approx. £40) on card [I wouldn't expect you to use all of this!]. There are cashpoints in the local area but not campus.
- On one evening we have a pub quiz in the Student Union bar. Every attendee will get a voucher for a (non-alcoholic) drink. Further drinks will be available to purchase, but we have been advised that they only accept card payments.
Please note that we cannot take responsibility for any lost or stolen items. Wi-Fi access is available across the campus and halls of residence. Access details will be provided at registration.
